2020 Red Stake, Cabernet Sauvignon

Grape Variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

AVA: Columbia Valley, Frenchman Hills

Vintage: 2020  - 2020 was a relatively warm year for Washington with a significantly smaller crop. Bud break began in mid-April, well-aligned with historical averages. While the crop was smaller, the combination of smaller berries and extended hang time is traditionally a recipe for high-quality wines in Washington.

Vinification and Aging: Whole berry fermentation, with manual battonage taking place 2-3 times daily. Primary fermentation lasted 14 days at which point we had gained optimum extraction. The wine was then very gently pressed and then placed in a mixture of new and neutral French oak barrique on the lees for 24 months. 25% brand new French oak (Med. toast from Tonnellerie Taransaud, and Sylvian)

Bottle: Bordeaux bottle 700gm empty             Capsule: 100% Tin

Bottling Date: January 19, 2023

Aroma:  Black cherry, cassis, and new leather.

Name: Red Stake refers to the stake on a golf course that delineates a water hazard.

2022 Short Grass, Sauvignon Blanc

Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

AVA: Royal Slope

Vintage: 2022 - 2022 was notable for a cool, wet spring, a hot, but brief, summer, and nearly unprecedented warm weather in late Sept./Oct. A freak blizzard hit Columbia Valley in April, stalling bud break for two to three weeks. Cool weather continued through bloom until summer temperatures finally arrived two to three weeks behind recent years. October saw ideal growing conditions, with above average temperatures, resulting in near-perfect finishing weather given the coolness of the season. The final crop was heavier, particularly for white varieties, due to larger berries and clusters.

Vinification and Aging: 100% Temperature controlled stainless steel tanks

Production: 6000 btls. (500 cases of 12 btls.)

2023 Arzábal, Albariño

Grape Variety: 100% Albariño

AVA: Yakima Valley

Vintage: 2023 started out with relatively average conditions, tracking slightly warmer than normal. May showed temperatures matching those of 2015 (a very warm vintage) but dropped slightly in early June to normal temperatures. The season is projected to end above the 24-year average, but not likely to reach temperatures seen in some of the warmest years of 2015 and 2021. This year’s harvest is proving to be more condensed due to lower yields and warm weather. The fruit is spectacular, with exceptional color and flavors. Resulting wines from this year’s vintage will feature intense, complex wines.

Vineyard and Vinification:

The location of the Cantrel Vineyard is approximately 1200’ above sea level on the north facing slopes. The vineyard work is predominantly done by hand, ensuring that from planting through harvest, the grapes are handled with the utmost care on their journey to the bottle. Our soils are naturally low in vigour, and we employ deficit irrigation alongside meticulous canopy management to yield smaller crops with exceptional flavor concentration. We are committed to sustainable viticulture, using non-organic pesticides and fertilizers only when necessary, keeping our impact on the environment as minimal as possible.

Vinification took place in 100% stainless steel tanks and a proprietary cultured yeast strain was used to assist in a slow progressive fermentation (30-45 days) and lees contact was over a period of 30-40 days to enhance the texture and flavours of the Albariño.

Ageing took place for a period of five months in bottle.
